“Flea markets are in my blood,” explains Lorna Ingersol, the great-granddaughter of William Jamie, who founded Jamie’s Flea Market in South Amherst, back in 1977.
Though now under different ownership, Ingersol and her family have always been involved with Jamie’s Flea Market. “It’s actually pronounced Ja-May’s“, Ingersol clarifies, “but that’s where Jamie’s comes from.“
A traditional flea market by every definition, Jamie’s Flea Market takes pride in staying true to its roots.
“Our flea market is still a traditional flea,” says Ingersol. “You have new merchandise, but we also have collectibles, antiques, sports memorabilia, and odds and ends. That’s what people love.“
Jamie’s hold different events almost monthly, with various activities for the whole family. “We are very kid oriented. Jamie’s is a great place to bring the family and enjoy yourself,” says Ingersol.
Jamie’s offers free parking and admission for all visitors. The market is open year-round, and during the warmer months attracts as many as 6,000 shopper daily. Outdoor spots are $15 per day, and are on a first-come first-serve basis.
Their indoor area is recently renovated and holds up to 200 spaces. Indoor booths are $27-30 per week depending on the location. All indoor booths are paid and reserved one week in advance. “It’s very affordable. You’re not committed to a long period of time. Renting for a week is a great way to test the waters,” continues Ingersol.
Jamie’s Flea Market is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM. “There’s an amusement park less than an hour away,” says Ingersol. “It’s a great weekend destination.“
