B J Hoertz BJH Creations Studio H featured artist Punk Rock Flea Market Lorain Ohio Fall 2018

Please help us welcome artist B.J. Hoertz of BJH Creations and Studio H to our Fall 2018 show line-up!

Originally from Lorain County, Hoertz now resides in Marion. He is a multi-talented artist and his illustrations take on a photorealistic life all their own. He specializes in fine point ink drawings of pop culture icons, sports figures, and musicians; all of his work is hand rendered and he sells prints on Facebook and his Etsy store.

Artist Who Gives Back

Earlier this year Hoertz was featured in the Columbus Dispatch for his amazing photorealistic drawings that depict the homeless – the sales from this series of drawings go directly to Huckleberry House, a Columbus nonprofit organization that helps house needy teenagers and young adults.

Some in Lorain County may know Hoertz as a singer and musician, fronting many hard rock, alternative, and grunge cover bands in the late 80’s till the mid-2010s such as Emerald City, Funkamungus, and more recently, Flannel. His love for music and wanting to be a singer caused his parents to kick him out at just 19 years old in 1989. He survived living in his car for a few months before moving in with friends. He eventually moved back in with his family 18 months later.

This experience stayed with Hoertz and became the inspiration for his homeless series. He wanted to give back and help those in need.

“I was lucky because I had a support group to bring me back in the fold,” he said of his teenage experiences. “But I see a lot of these kids in the programs at Huck House, they don’t have parents who say, ‘OK, come back.’

“Some of these kids are out there because they’ve been abused or their parents are on drugs, and they have no other option.”

He keeps the originals and sells prints for $20 each or 3 for $50 on his Facebook and Etsy pages. All proceeds from this series go to Huckleberry House.

Quirky Artist

Hoertz is a down to earth guy with a great sense of humor. When I mentioned writing this feature on him, he said, “I have been featured on the news and in the Columbus Dispatch for charitable work I’ve done with my art. I’m a Leo… I enjoy mustard and Helen Reddy.”

See some examples of some of the prints he will have on hand at the show in the slideshow gallery below. Make sure to get a set of his homeless prints as well as some of his other prints on Saturday, September 22 at the Punk Rock Flea Market Lorain County 3rd Annual Fall Show!

Contact Hoertz if you are looking for something specific, as he is open to custom work.
